Challenge
Alumni (former students) of a university should be able to receive a digital diploma. This diploma can be used for various purposes, such as:
Job applications
Availing discounts on further education and study materials
Free subscription to the university's magazine
Entry to alumni dinners
The digital diploma should be stored in a digital wallet controlled by the student. The university will issue these digital diplomas, and users must verify their identity using a DIGG-approved e-ID at trust level 3 during the issuance process.
The university wants to verify the identity (typically a personal identity number) by comparing it with the university's records to confirm whether the student has graduated. The issuance should be administratively simple, secure, and cost-effective.
Solution
The solution comprises several components:
Issuance Software: Based on Entra ID.
Digital Wallet: Any wallet supporting Verifiable Credentials, such as Microsoft Authenticator.
Login: Provided by Fortified ID Integrity Web with DIGG-approved e-IDs at trust level 3 (e.g., BankID, Freja eID, Foreign eID).
Verification: Fortified ID Integrity Web checks the university's records to confirm that the user is listed and has graduated.
The solution is cost-effective because:
Users are accustomed to using e-IDs privately.
Issuance of e-IDs is managed externally.
Easy integration of new, approved e-IDs.
Flexible verification of student graduation.
Minimal administrative burden on the organization.
Standardized integration.
Additional Information
The integration between Entra ID and Fortified ID Web follows a standardized flow based on OIDC (OpenID Connect).
